Novonyx & COMDEX

There are some good questions about this relationship that need to be answered. I believe they will be answered at COMDEX and I believe Schmidt will answer the financial questions with the quarterly report.
However I have no more information than you do on this.

From Novell's point of view, Netscapes web server on top of Novell's NOS server is an answer to Netscapes web server on top of NT. If there is a performance gain using Novell (which there should be) then some companies will switch, that means they will buy a copy of IntranetWare to go with their web server.

It also gives Novell one more reason for saying to its enterprise customers, keep us around.

However all of this is very much dependant on how the sales are executed and what the philosphy of the sales force is. I'm not sure Novell has prepared the roll out of its part of the sales scenario. I very much hope they have considered all of the angles and figured out exactly how the two products will be marketed and sold together. For the sales people from Novell I see three possibilities: (1) going after companies that are currently using Netscape on top of NT, (2) convincing enterprise customers upgrading their experimental NT web servers to install Novell Intranetware with Novonyx, (3) using Novonyx to entice customers to upgrade their 3.X to Novell Intranetware.

Go to the Novonyx website. This combination is just a marketing tool.
It's how Novell is spending the 1 billion. novonyx.com

Hello Steve,

> PS: If you write me back and ask "Who said Novonyx was a good deal
> for the shareholders?", I won't respond back.

I wouldn't ask this ... I think it's an obvious benefit! ;-)
