i could not have said it beter myself. somedays it seems as if these threads are over run by technical analysts trying to make a living with short term trades. question them, and they will challenge you with their certainty that there has been a paradigm shift - buy and hold is gone forever and fundamental analysis is for old farts. they are using options and every other gimmic they can think of to make their commissions, calls, and puts and then net a profit.

from my days playing the thoroughbread horses in maryland, i used to tell beginners that the worst thing that could happen to them is to get lucky. then they would think it is easy and go bankrupt trying to repeat the experience.

i avoid the so called cyclical stocks because they require predicting turning points. i'm not certain even God can do that. will the universe expand forever? or is there enough mass for an eventual gravitational collapse?

it seems excessive to pay $80 a month for real-time continuous quotes. it is hard to believe they are really earning returns comensurate with the risks they are taking.

the shorter the interval under examination, the lower the signal to noise ratio!
