Business as Usual at Quarterdeck Despite PowerQuest Patent

MARINA DEL REY, Calif., Nov. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Quarterdeck Corporation (Nasdaq:
QDEK - news) announced today that it is one of a number of companies that
PowerQuest Corporation of Orem, UT alleges infringes a patent recently issued to
PowerQuest. The patent, titled ''Methods for Manipulating Disk Partitions,'' issued on
October 7, 1997 as U.S. Patent No. 5,675,769. Quarterdeck's ''Partition-It'' product is
among those PowerQuest claims infringe the patent.

Quarterdeck believes that it does not violate the PowerQuest patent and that the
patent should never have been issued by the U.S. Patent Office.

PowerQuest has provided Quarterdeck with a copy of a complaint, but has not formally
commenced a lawsuit against Quarterdeck. Should PowerQuest proceed with a
lawsuit, Quarterdeck will vigorously defend and seek to invalidate PowerQuest's
patent.

The PowerQuest patent will be available early next week on Quarterdeck's web site at
quarterdeck.com.
