The co. is laying off some workers, according to CFO- nothing demand-related, just continued efforts to improve operating margins. There are plenty of other short-seller stories out there which are hurting this stock. Prior to announcing 3Q, they were saying DSC would miss the qtr. Then they say that they met the qtr. thru aggressive accting. practices and will have to restate when the 10Q gets filed (which will get filed by Monday and put an end to that one). Now they (incl. Lehman's analyst) are saying they will miss the 4th qtr. because they are back-end loaded and the holidays won't allow them to make up for slower sales earlier in the qtr. Funny, Christmas falls on Dec. 25th every yr. and yet the 4th qtr. always seems to be their strongest.
Anyway, the short-sellers have certainly won this battle, let's hope the longs have enough troops left to win the war

The layoffs have been going on for a couple of weeks now, but looks like about complete for now. There has been a lot of fat at DSC at all levels and departments and as I stated before, the move was for cost cutting purposes and probably to send a message to remaining employees. Now if they could work on tieing JD's compensation with the stock performance that would be a message!

Speaking of cost cutting...stockholders will be thrilled to know that the DSC Annual Picnic (being held this month) is located every year at Six Flags Amusement Park (larger than Disneyland!). DSC rents the entire park for a day.
