AMDites: supply and demand for chips. Look at thechipmerchant.com

First notice the price of Intel's MMX-233 chip, $302 for quantity 1. This is $2 over Intel's price for 1000. This indicates lots of these chips are not being sold because of low demand.

Next notice the price of AMD's K6-233. $360 is still way above list price ($236) due to AMD's production problems, but it is down $5 from last week.

Next notice that the K6-166, slowest speed K6, is completely sold out and not available.
