Maybe Gary can address this. But I think it is a copywrite matter. In the past, they sold the required code, and have required royality payments if they included direct read into their programs. for MSWIN 6.x, they have decided not to make code available. The 255 limit has always been a minor problem to me. It is easier to work around it then to take time-consuming efforts to eliminate it. A prime complaint against Equis has been file management. Those that report using 2000 limit for dir. have said their program turns to mud, slow.
