Thanks for posting the Centura release, Cathy. And a most interesting document it is, too.

There comes a point where companies become so wrapped up in their own image, they start to look faintly ridiculous. It's nothing unusual, because it's a people thing - the kind of self-blindness that makes boxers bite their opponents ears off....

Let's translate a few key phrases:

Centura ..... today announced that it will refocus its corporate strategy

"Sorry, guys, we've changed our mind again"

...it has become increasingly clear that our best use of resources is to concentrate on products we own rather than on being a distributor of products that are complementary

"Umang was right all along, and we were stupid to take our eye off the ball"

In fact, our embedded databases, suite of tools and services continue to account for over 98% of Centura's revenues

"We never quite worked out how to sell this stuff. 2% of last quarter's revenue is $270k, that gives you some idea of how bad we were."

We believe it is in the best interests of our shareholders and customers to continue to invest our resources in our core competencies

"When I think how much we sunk into this puppy - people, marketing dollars, management time - it gives me heartburn"

There's a lot to learn from the omissions from this release as well. What they have left out are the answers to (i) "Where are we going to find the cash to survive to the end of the quarter?", and (ii) "Where on earth will we find a decent job after this?". Another omission is the revelation that they can't actually afford to fire the managers, there's not enough in the bank to pay their handshakes.....

A sad, sad end.

>>> "In fact, our embedded databases, suite of tools and services continue to account for over 98% of Centura's revenues." <<<

Does anyone know what percentage of the revenue comes from databases and how much from tools ? I've heard that less than 25% of the revenue is coming from tools, and that services and databases account for the other 70% or so even though tools account for over 50% of the costs -- could this be true ?
