Unless one considers the density of the Hawaiin Islands and the intense vertical deflection which takes place there could be magnified tenfold.

Two of the worse places on earth to navigate underwater is around the Hawaiian Islands and in the area of the Burmuda Triangle. Both areas have strong vertical deflection which play havoc on magnetically oriented gyro systems.

I could tell you stories, but then I would have to....
