quality proteins, fats, and carbs are EXPENSIVE

you will never get an optimum diet in a school environment...

make the lunches at home, the only way to really control your child's intake (even then, he might 'trade' for a bunch of breaded chicken 'fingers' or french fries)

educating parents about how to prepare enjoyable and tasty low carb, high protein, healthy fat tote-able meals is the best thing you can do for your child

Lindy,

"Obesity and School Lunches - NYTimes.com"

That's an incredibly interesting finding. You have to wonder if the authorities who are trying to do something about this impending disaster are looking to places where this problem doesn't exist. The following isn't exactly a study of childhood obesity, just overall obesity, but nevertheless it would be interesting to know what the children in those countries who have one-third the obesity rates that we have feed their children at lunchtime:

nationmaster.com

That would be the Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, France, Austria, Italy, Norway and Switzerland. I didn't include Japan and S. Korean since their diets are probably composed of foods not likely to be readily accepted here.

If anyone from one of those countries reads this thread and knows their school lunch regime it would be interesting to hear what a school lunch is comprised of.
