Netflix coming to Qualcomm Snapdragon-based Android phones

Word on the AndroidandMe street is that the much requested Netflix Inc. app will finally be coming to Android smart phones – but possibly only those with Qualcomm Inc.’s Snapdragon chip inside for now.

The site says a Qualcomm rep let slip that the firm has been working with Netflix to bring the popular video service to Android, something the chipmaker feels it is qualified to do owing to its sophisticated SecureMSM technology and the layers of security it has baked into its products. This attention to security detail has apparently won Netflix over.

“We meet all of the very stringent security requirements of the studios and we have been working with an OEM to have Netflix come pre-loaded,” the rep told AndroidandMe.

Netflix has been notoriously wary of the open Android platform with the firm’s product development man, Greg Peters, stating in a blog post last year that “The hurdle has been the lack of a generic and complete platform security and content protection mechanism available for Android.”

This may also change with Android 3.0 which has an added pluggable DRM framework which allows apps to manage protected content.

No doubt we’ll find out just what phones Qualcomm plans to announce with Netflix preloaded at MWC in just over two weeks.

It's like this with the whole deal.

We're the best, the largest, the coolest.

Well, not yet, today, but on vapor, stupid. Tomorrow we'll be all that, you moron.

Android, in real terms, is defined as Manana. (g)
