That's the way I've always perceived the issue. Why else would they do if not for their own self-interests? There is no other logical reason to say, "Let's forget about hiring the best employees and contractors, and let's forget about admitting the most qualified students to college. We have to human duty to hire, advance, and enroll more Blacks, even if they are not qualified." It just doesn't make sense. As always, I'm open to a better explanation beyond commerce, viewership, and votes.
