Have you been to a elementary school recently? Are the kids playing outside anytime during the day? Before school?

Yes, mine have recess and playground equipment as well as indoor activities. Nothing before school, though. That is no longer allowed because of lack of supervision. But after school there are overlapping programs for kids who want to stay and play team sports. Other athletic opportunities exist for those kids enrolled in the after school program for working mothers.

As a community, we got most of the vending machines out of our schools many years ago.

I'm pretty sure that when I've heard or read on this topic, Michelle Obama has discussed the whole package.....better eating habits, more exercise, and smaller portions. She talks plenty about nutrition and her lovely vegetable gardens with the wide variety of nutritious foods are a clever teaching tool, I thought. Personally speaking, I can't find legitimate fault with anything she's said or what she is trying to do. The attempts to ridicule and politicize this make me sad quite frankly. This always happens when a first lady takes on her platform. Remember how many people made fun of Nancy Reagan's Just Say No to drugs apprach. Maybe first ladies should just stay in the background, knitting and baking cookies like in days of old.
