There is no doubt that the analyst community dislikes PSINet. The "analysts" (and I use the term loosely) are nothing more than spreadsheet jockeys who type in EPS revisions and ripple them through to calculate new PV's and growth rates, etc. A stock like PSINet is maddening to them as the standard deviation of the CEO's EPS projections is something analogous to the broad-side of a barn. In short, a PSINet requires genuine A-N-A-L-Y-S-I-S, a pursuit which is anathema to most analysts, as they all try to crowd around the mean EPS estimate and avoid non-controversial stances. Hey, would you jeopardize a $1 million salary for silly heroics and fiercely independent thought? Bottom line: PSINet will get no help from the Wall Street community. Schraeder will really have to make something happen. Then, with yesterday's Wall Street Journal firmly in hand, the analysts will flock to him and "explain his success". Fellow shareholders, do YOU believe in Schraeder? That's the question.
