South Voisey's Bay work program planned; two drill holes completed on JV
with Cypress
Donner Minerals Ltd DML
Shares issued Nov 12 close $2.23
Thu 13 Nov 97 News Release
Mr Andrew Cooke of Mandorin Goldfields reports
Mandorin Goldfields has received commitments from Donner to carry out a
work program on its property in 1998.
Mandorin has a joint venture with Donner over the 200 mineral claims
comprising mineral licence number 3104M at South Voisey Bay, east of
Notakwanon River. The property is in excess of 48 sq km immediately on the
western border of Donner's Northern Abitibi joint venture property where
Donner has reported results from holes 67 and 75 which intersected
intervals of massive sulphide mineralization. The Mandorin property begins
approximately 6km from holes 67 and 75.
Donner is the operator of the exploration program on Mandorin's property
and is currently preparing detailed programs and budgets for their 1998
campaign in South Voisey Bay. It is contemplated that initially this will
include a gravity survey over the southeastern portion of Mandorin's
property as gravity surveys have been most effective in delineating the
gabbroic intrusions identified to date. Donner has advised Mandorin that
gravity data which outlined a strong anomaly in the Northern Gabbro area is
open to the west and northwest and the 1998 program will in part be
designed to test for extensions in those directions.
It is envisaged that the 1998 work program will also include detailed
mapping over the southeastern portion of Mandorin's property.
Results of the Donner/Teck 1997 work program to date have been considered
encouraging and identified intrusive rocks which are similar in character
to those hosting the world class Voisey Bay nickel deposits found in a
similar geological environment approximately 90km to the north. <P> Mr
Donald Huston of Cypress Minerals reports
Two diamond drill holes (97-79 and 97-86) have been completed by Teck on
Cypress Minerals' South Voisey's Bay joint venture with Donner in Labrador,
Newfoundland. Both holes were drilled into a strong curvilinear gravity
anomaly that is interpreted as the possible feeder or throat of a
funnel-shaped, layered intrusion.
Each of the holes reached a depth of 701m. The first hole was stopped due
to drill capacity below the basal contact and will be deepened with a
higher capacity drill rig. After a short interval of hanging wall gneiss at
the top of hole No. 1 (97-79), a thick sequence of layered olivine gabbro
was encountered to the base of the hole. The last 18m contained 1% to 5%
disseminated sulphides, possibly indicating proximity to the basal contact
with gneiss. This stratigraphic horizon is considered to be the most
favourable for the occurrence of a Voisey's Bay style nickel-copper-cobalt
deposit.
Hole No. 2 (97-86) also encountered a thickened sequence of layered olivine
gabbro. Assay results for both these holes are pending and will be reported
when available.
A third hole has been collared in medium-grained gabbro on the shoulder of
a large gravity anomaly on the west side of the Cypress Minerals/Donner
property. A second drill rig has been mobilized to the South Gabbro zone
and is currently drilling. Of the three diamond drills in operation by Teck
in the South Voisey's Bay project, two are now exploring the South Gabbro
zone.
Results of the Donner/Teck 1997 work program to date have been considered
encouraging and have identified intrusive rocks which are very similar in
character to those hosting the world class Voisey's Bay nickel deposits
found in a similar geological environment approximately 90km to the north.

I don't see any nickel assays. Still haven't seen a drill plan that is legible.

Hello Ed

It would appear to be consistent with everything Teck indicated so far. There is multiple target potential on this play and it will take awhile perhaps years to find them all. Keep in mind that this intrusion is just barely smaller than the one in Sudbury 1,200km2.

Thats a lot of ground to drill!
