I don't use F keys with FF, but on my keyboard, the F11 and F12 are right above my Backspace key, if you are typing fast, or grab the board you can accidentally hit that F11 key and enter full screen mode, loose all you tabs, etc, but all you have to do to restore it is hit the F11 key and you are back in business.

For the heck of it, hit the F11 key, see what happens, then to restore, hit the F11 key one more time.

Do you have Jing or another screen capture tool you can send a screen shot to see what it looks like? Would make it easier.

Have you tried going to Control Panel /Add Remove Programs. Could be you will find the Ask Toolbar listed and be able to uninstall. If not, you may want to try an Uninstall Program like Revo Uninstaller. Or,try going to Search and enter Ask Toolbar. You can delete what comes up in the right column of Search or go to the search source and delete.
