Analog Kid,

I do not own any CSCO at the present. ASND is the only networker I presently own, although I,ve been in and out of CSCO, COMS (USRX), BAY, FORE, and CS this year. I'll take 3 1/4 shares of ASND for 1 CSCO at the present. CSCO has a lot of room below. ASND clearly has been the loser here short term, but I like the prospects for gain % on ASND vs. CSCO 12 - 18 mo. out. (That is if ASND is still stand alone).

BTW, are you involved with Analog co.s? Analog Devices, Linear Tech, Maxim and the like. ADI has been a long favorite of mine. Looking pretty attractive at the moment. I follow semi's (am in the business) closely as well.

Larry

A review of ASND press releases of the past month or so support my reasons for being so outspokenly bullish (and yes very long ASND).

11/12: Infonetics report shows service providers rank Ascend number one in both Frame Relay and ISDN.

11/12: New study of high-density access concentrators proves MAX TNT is the highest performing WAN access switch.

11/11: Ascend partners with Microsoft's new NetOp partner solutions center.

11/10: Ascend and Earthlink team up to provide turnkey internet solutions to corporate customers.

11/03: Ascends MAX 4048 WAN Access switch outperforms U.S. Robotics total control hub in the Tolly Group study.

10/31: Michael Ashby joins Ascend as Executive V.P. and CFO.

10/27: Ascend leads worldwide frame relay market for ISPs and Carriers and gains market share in ATM for carriers.

10/27: Earthlink adds 5,000 more Ascend MAX ports to support growth.

10/27: Navisite bases new nationwide data services network on Ascend equipment.

10/22: Bellsouth and Ascend to Co-market remote access solutions.

10/20: Ascend announces simplified network access software solution for corporate customers with heterogenous Networks.

10/20: Kinko's chooses Ascend and Lucent to build one of the largest IPSEC virtual private networks in the world.

10/14: AGIS launches wholesale dial access business with Mega-POPs based on MAX TNT.

10/9: David Misunas joins Ascend as VP Strategic Business Development.

10/6: Ascend announces first "Smart Core" ATM switch for building new public networks.

10/6: Ascend announces first multiservice ATM backbone switch to support ATM, frame relay and IP switches.

10/6: Ascend introduces new carrier-class xDSL concentrator and multi-port SDSL customer premise router.

9/25: UUNET selects Ascend Equipment for major expansion.

9/17: NTT, Japan's largest supplier of telecommunications services, chooses Ascend frame relay multiservice WAN switches.

Sorry for the long post, however, I think a lot of these releases have been lost in the general market turmoil, and warrant repeating. This is clearly a case of stepping back from the trees and looking at the forest.

Either I'm an idiot or these releases represent a company that is consistently introducing leading-edge best of class products at a very fast pace. Is establishing strategic alliances with the biggest names in the industry (MSFT, LU, UUNET / WCOM / MCI???, NTT). And... iscontinuing to hold a leadership position in its key markets remote access, frame relay, and is gaining marketshare in ATM.

Conversely, Ascend is not going down the tubes, losing its ass to CSCO, crumbling in the Asian markets and all the other crap that some on this thread profess. I'll take my chances with a "loser" like ASND all day long.
