iom announcement - noise it is. Got this from the iom thread - ZORAN (ZRAN) Zoran Corp. develops and markets integrated circuits and software for digital video and audio compression applications. JPEG coders, MPEG video decoders and AC-3 and MPEG audio decoders. Zorans product applications include professional and consumer video editing systems, PC-based stand alone video CD systems, DVD ROM players and others. I think we were guilty of overestimating the competition. IMHO it is a good thing that we went throught this exercise. Although this announcement was just noise, there may be further announcements from other companies. This event just illustrates that the the market that sndk is trying to capture is very lucrative and although sndk has a good lead right now, other major players are not going to sit on the sidelines. Hopefully sndk has good enough lead for the market to give sndk the benefit of the doubt. RROFL < Relieved and rolling over the floor laughing>

Read the Zoran press release. Seems like a lot of smoke. Mentions all the companies using Zoran technology but nothing about any Camera co. that have agreed to use a standard or to license a technology. Also, isn't there still going to be quite a time lag between camera shots. Zoran's technology may compress JPEG for more shots per clik! disk, but the transfer to the clik disk must be inherently slower than flash card.

Hmmm, sound like IOM is pretty desperate. One camera maker: Zoran. Where are the telecom makers? The price of flash is about $4.00.MB at the moment. I think in a year or two, it may drop to $1.00/MB which will make it very competitive as a media for portable storage. After all, a flash is made out of sand and so it's just a matter of improving the yield, whereas any mechanical device will have a minimum cost associated with it. Atmel is a electronic components maker, in particular flash, eeprom, eprom, programmable logic array. Their market cap is about 3 times Sandisk, and I believe ATML is at the 52 week low level at the moment. At the 52 week high level, ATML has a market cap of about 5 Billion. Since ATML is that "big" just making a few electronics components, I sure hope that SNDK will be at least half that "big" in a year, i.e. 2.5 Billion, or tripling today's stock price. P.S. In the last few posts, I kept saying that EEPROM is non-programmable on the fly. EEPROM is programmable on the fly. EPROM is not (need to erase it first using uviolet light) . Sorry.
