My perception is that for small businesses centering on Microsoft Office, Access was a key factor in forcing them to use Windows.

Idiotic long term yes, but a for a lot of companies Access did what it needed to do.

That really doesn't make any sense; Access is among the least used components of Office, with both Excel and Word being far more important (not sure about outlook).

If they were wanting to force people to use Windows, they'd have keep excel to themselves.

Access is a minor player. Our company has deployed hundreds and hundreds, probably thousands, of copies of it, yet, I can't think of one who has ever used it to my knowledge. But excel and word, they all use daily.
