Digital near unit sale to Cabletron - WSJ

NEW YORK, Nov 13 (Reuters) - Digital Equipment Corp is
close to an agreement to sell its computer-network equipment
business to Cabletron Systems Inc , the Wall Street
Journal said on Thursday, citing people familiar with the
negotiations.
While no agreement has been signed, the two sides are both
comfortable with terms valuing the unit at $400 million and
$500 million, the paper said in its electronic edition.
An announcement on the sale could come within days, the
paper said.
A deal with Cabletron would help the computer maker further
tighten its focus by freeing it of a cash-hungry business and
giving it more flexibility to sell networking gear made by a
variety of outside equipment makers, the paper said.
