They will always be years behind. Not that they won't make money, they just aren't going to make big profits. Puny profit margins.

They're making about the same amount of money as APPL is, I believe. But with a hell of a lot less risk.

Think about it. If android hadn't been developed they'd be NOTHING in this market. Nada. Zip.

That's a silly claim. Obviously, the rest of the world wasn't going to sit idly by and watch Apple dominate the smartphone market without competition. Someone was going to do it. But why would Samsung invest money in developing an OS when they are handed one essentially gratis that is at least as good as Apple's?

Honestly, it is a foolish move to undertake OS development at this time given the current market situation. If iOS had an advantage over Android, someone might say, "Hey, I think I can make more money by doing it better". But that simply isn't the case today.

I think HP's decision in this respect is DUMB, and they'll end up paying for it. They are well-positioned as anyone, but in the end they're going to write it off after a few years of flailing about IMO.
