That's why a flat tax system of some sort makes sense. Nobody gets to play favorites.

Also why it won't happen.

What's the point of being in high office if you can't rake in a little extra dough, make solid contacts for a lobbying job when you leave, and get a little extra sex on the side?

No point at all.

Obama is just looking to buy votes from those 5000 extra federal employees.

Just view everything he does through the prism of Democrats seeking to enlarge their base, amass power, and stay in power.

It explains a lot.

I was struck in the article by how little was expected to be collected relative to the added cost of hiring.

Adding 5,000 new employees to the IRS is an abomination.

The IRS is antiquated, out of control, abused by power, a waste of taxpayers' time, inefficient, and fosters both deliberate corruption, and unintended error.

The US Govt has become expert at feeding losers.

Moreover, I seem to recall the IRS had already planned to add personnel to handle the enforcement of Obamacare. Since O'care is going to die, they won't need those folks either.

Here's a story from nearly a year ago on that. Looks like they were going to be ready for enforcement effective 2014. Bottom line - the IRS is one agency Obama really really likes:

IRS Needs $10 Billion to Be Nation's Health Enforcer
The Internal Revenue Service will function as the government's chief enforcer for health care reform, should President Obama sign the bill into law as expected, monitoring both businesses and individuals to certify whether they have the insurance coverage the government requires.
