If they are too greedy they will offend customers who will never deal with them again, so even with a so-called monopoly, suppliers need to be careful they don't annoy people, then lose their business when another supplier shows up.

If a company charges a huge amount, then their customers might install insulation. If the supplier then cuts their energy price to zero, the customer still won't remove their insulation as that would be an effort.

All transactions are transient monopolies if "the market" is defined tightly enough.
