I think que has it largely correct. As a retiree I am experiencing some of what he says and in affect have a very low effective tax rate. With no wage income I do not pay a city income tax and as for Social Security - I collect it!

Upon experiencing this it has become my belief that a national sales tax - in place of some other tax - is a good idea.

The National debt will NEVER be paid down. The best we could ever hope for is to stop growing it. If we did that, our natural growth of GNP plus our normal 2% inflation would wipe it down to nothing in a few decades.

When I bought my house in 64, my 20K mortgage looked huge. Forty years later, my then much larger mortgage on the same house looked small.
