so for a 5000 piece of art I could end up paying ..what 10-20,000 for it ? why would anyone do that

If you moved from that state, what would your situation then be? A lot of businesses do move. Maybe capital gains?

My example of a personally owned company buying art was as much of a rhetorical example, as anything. I used that example because I did it personally.

Don't you ever wonder what that dentist who used gold for his patients' filling did with the excess? And yes, that was a rhetorical question, too. Inquiring minds can come up with all kinds of examples can't they?

The savvy owner of a small business will do everything, including buying items of appreciable value which, in turn increase the value of their holdings. And, of course, within the bounds of legal propriety.

For those who smugly choose to believe this type of personal prerogative isn't used, all I can say is, "those who wear blinders, enjoy a very narrow view of the real world".
