Normally you would not want to make a rape a big public story out of respect for the victim.

But this was a rape of a reporter who was in the middle of covering the biggest story of the month. A story that the whole world was watching. Seems utterly naive that they thought they could or should keep it quiet even though I understand their impulse to protect their friend and colleague.

I am giving them the benefit of the doubt that they were not trying to protect the image of the Egyptian protesters.

Many of us women of the West think carrying a gun is pretty good protection. ;)

The Muslim fellow in that interview on Hannity Monday night said the protesters were ringed by Christians who were there to protect them, and that the tanks in Tahrir Square had crosses attached to them. Life's a beach!
