It's flubs like this that keep the Birther conspiracies simmering (that, and the fact that Obama won't release his birth certificate): Americans, even those who don't care about politics, know that there are 50 states. It's not a new number: been that way for over 50 years now. When you flub a fact that every American knows, people begin to wonder if you really are American.
