I bought an exploratory position in PTNR. Not very exciting company, definitely with political risk and some leverage.

Agree on the political risk... may I ask why you would favor PTNR over CEL..?

Hello Jurgis,

I like your increase in NXY. Good earnings report this week and it looks like the Brent price increase should benefit them strongly as long as it holds.

I'm still holding my shares and I'm not sure what my price target would be to sell at this point. I feel of all my old plays, this has gotten the least love from the market (which is why I bought it in the first place when I did), but its time will come, imo.

Thanks,

Grant

SDTH ShengdaTech Has anyone looked at this lately? It seems pretty attractive, although the recent convertible offering doesn't seem to shareholder friendly. I suspect I'll start a position this week if I don't dig up any skeletons.

I think you had great timing on selling MHR-C.
I just read conf call transcripts--ceo Evans hinted he might issue more pref shares--what do you make of these quotes?

"We have been successful in our perpetual preferred stock offerings. We started the year with only about 4 or 5 million of that outstanding. We ended the year with 100 million. We sold that ourselves under our at-the-market program with another firm up in New York, and we'll be doing some other things in that regard, we hope, from now until the next few weeks."

and later on:

"We have absolutely zero plans to raise equity capital in 2011 at this point in time. Now, we have other plans to raise capital, but they're not in the common equity market."

I wonder if they might extend the C for another year and issue another 4million shares at 25? Wonder what effect that would have on premium?

Jurgis Bekepuris: Looks like you and I are the only ones around here with an interest in ESTE. I keep considering adding to my position, but the bid and ask spread is so very large with this company that it discourages me. Of course, after the reverse split and with only 1.2M sh float now (per Yahoo), that could be expected. Meanwhile the stock moves up. Sharply. Which sometimes happens after there's an article published touting a low float stock.

I'm in ESTE for the Bakken and the company's ceo, who's "supposed to be" very good.

Small position. In since 7/'09 with small adds in '10. Maybe more now if stock will fall back:

My top 10-ish positions in no particular order: NRF-A/B, UVIC, IDCC, EBIX, GFRE, GILD, UFPT, MHR-C, NXY, COPJF, DRAGF. Changes in top-10: UFPT, MHR-C, NXY - in due to adds.

New positions: DELL, AFL
Positions increased: FRFHF, PWRD, GLW, NXY, EGY, MSFT, UFPT, CYOU, GFRE, SDTH, FSR, CGPI, MHR-C
Positions reduced: GPOR, NE, UEPS
Positions eliminated: GRMN, HRBN, XCO

Fortunately or not, the market waited for big action until I returned from my vacation. On macro side unrest in Middle East and North Africa plus earthquake and nuclear meltdown in Japan are dominating the market. On smaller side, Chinese small caps are having tough season persuading auditors that they are legit.

Not much action on fixed income side, except for MHR-C add close to par. Unfortunately, MHR-C is probably a gonner come December call date.

Increased positions in cheap (or believed to be cheap - SDTH :/ ) companies.

DELL seems to be attractive here, so I established a small position. Same for AFL.

Yet another sale in GPOR. I am almost out of the stock even with its good earnings this year. Shoulda held more for higher gains, but one never knows.

NE is not really overpriced, but I sold a bit to raise cash.
UEPS has horrible results, but even with these results it's pretty cheap here. Again sale to raise cash.
XCO - sale to raise cash as it's not clear if there's much upside from possible buyout.
HRBN - sale before report to avoid bad headline news. Shoulda done this with other Chinese small caps too. :)
GRMN - gave up on the company even though it's still pretty profitable and cheap.
