If the US were to sell its appx. 8000 tons at average price of 1000 per oz., it would realize about $256 billion.

Lower price used because such a huge sale would lower avg. selling price.

Calculation (pls. correct me if necessary; I am a lawyer):

32000 ozs. per ton x 8000 tons x 1000 = $256 billion.

Not a paltry sum, but not one which will correct past fiscal follies in any sense of the word.

With discussions at IMF level re using gold in some form for monetary re-set, not going to happen.

If gold somehow has a role, not having it, or selling it, will be seen as catastrophic.
