When I was in the Navy Reserves, actually I guess I still am, on some inactive list, I never resigned my commission, if you didn't show up repeatedly for the required physical, (normally full blown every 5 years, and filling a short form and a few blood tests every year), they'd administratively transfer you from the selected reserve to the individual ready reserves and that was the end of that, even if you owed them time.
