The 5% layoff number was never meant to reflect a company mandated target but was taken as a percentage of employees actually laid off. The number is more in some departments and less in others but is approximately 5% (i.e., 50 in 1000). The gist of the original post was only to present news that some people at DSC were aware that some fat had been accumulating in R&D and trimming was occurring. I guess we disagree on the number of employees laid off but not the reasons behind them. By the way, I have heard about lay offs at the Plano facilities and not worldwide.
