Interesting. The problem is the turn around to get the recall fixed. Two weeks? Times like this you want to drop it off at an authorized repair site and pick it up the next day.

When looking at building my new system I was starting at Newegg and the reviews of the MOBOs. The only problem is, you sometimes become quickly dejected when there is no clear problem free MOBO. (not suggesting perfection but one mobo has a slew of dead USB ports another has this ... then that one ...).

Assuming that is the problem it isn't Dell's fault (Cheeks). Personally I would use the machine up to a reasonable point to either ditch or continue to hold and have it go through the recall process. PITA? Sure is, all recalls are. But if Dell is pulling i7s you might have a pretty good deal even considering this issue. If in fact this is the only problem.

No this is the first generation chip problem not the new one. Dell had problems with the new one on the desktops but does not offer that one on its notebooks, until Intel fixes it.

All laptop makers are set back with releasing new i7's cause of the problem with Sandy Bridge.

This problem right now with Dell's i7 notebooks is NOT Sandy Bridge.

I am calling tech support right now and asking for a supervisor to get to the bottom of this.

Maybe that's why I got this system so cheap, with the options it had no other notebook could touch it price wise.
