PMS,

Thanks for the link about activation. I have all this info somewhere but you just saved me looking for it.

I have changed my DVD/CD writers all the time and have never had an activation problem. So far when I buy a PC, I never (a) upgraded memory; (b) changed video cards or (c) swapped out MOBOs. And these are on systems where the HDD has failed as well.

I have however have (a) changed NICs and (b) Changed HDDs. Changing two items will trigger the re-activation for sure. Once I had swapped (cannot recall why) the MOBO NIC for an add-on NIC. HDD crashed and replaced that - then required re-activation. I then swapped the NICS and all was fine.

If the HDD fails and then fails again that alone won't trigger a re-activation.
