Cool. What case did you use? Brand/Model. 1600 speed RAM. Wow! Was the memory listed in their list of memory to use? (per the MOBO specs). I heard if you don't get the right RAM, the RAM is recognized at a slower speed. Sounds like you have a screamer.

I was looking at a GIGABYTE MOBO. I have only bot ASUS so far and with ASUS tend to always end up getting their DELUXE model. Sort of like anything these days, the value in the DELUXE compels you to buy it even if you don't have a need for the extra stuff. By the time you add on a card here or there, the DELUXE has more than paid for itself with the built in stuff.

My only concern is moving over a legacy tuner (PCI) and/or tossing it. But I have found all too often, holding onto the past trying to make things backwards compatible isn't always a good move. Need to move forward. I will check out the MOBO specs. I also like getting "overkill" sometimes (but staying within budget). By doing so in 2003, by 2009 I was able to add SATA drives without additional SATA port costs.

Typically when specing I have tried to stay within the $150-$250 range per component (MOBO, CASE, VIDEO, CPU etc). I typically don't lower my costs just because gear is cheaper but faster today.

thanks cow - good thing I asked.

The method of purchasing components that I use is pretty simple..I go to Newegg and pick the components, case, processor, motherboard, memory, HD, power supply, DVD/CD burner(s) etc.

When I look at a component I usually consider price, but I always consider the customer ratings and comments.

For example...power supplies..Best Rating option.
