Another word for what you describe is "corruption". This is what could cause this whole bull market--never mind the drive sector--to unravel. If the rich just get richer in SE Asia, without the poor moving to become middle class and becoming red blooded consumers and (relatively) educated citizens, then we are toast.

However, happily, brothers in law don't always make it. Micropolis was literally bought by the brother in law of some muckety muck in Singapore as part of Singapore Technologies a couple of years ago, and it has just been folded--they lost enough money and won't throw more good money after bad. This is good news in two ways--one, it takes out one of the drive players (albeit a small one), and two, it shows that at least in Singapore, the muckety mucks don't have unlimited resources to pour into bitsville. Malaysia, from what I have been reading lately, may be a different story. The Sukharno family is apparently incredibly corrupt and rich. However, they have not gotten directly into drives, at least not yet, as far as I know. May they stay far away.

In general, though, it is surely true that countries like India are moving more and more into middle classdom; even though they have a huge improverished class, they now have a larger middle class than there are people in the US. And it is growing quickly every year. Other countries are also clearly getting wealthier.

We'll have to wait to see how things turn out. Gotta go now.
