You find this strange for what reason? Republicans have typically been at the forefront of such things. Consider his appointment of the first woman to the Court, or GWB's appointment of blacks, women, and even black women to the highest offices in the land. Democrats are, unfortunately, full of talk about diversity but it is all hypocrisy. GWB had far more diversity in his cabinet than obama does.
