So at least for the same movies that are available from both, I don't understand why pay-per-view can not match the same price as Redbox. My money would be going to them instead. The way it is they don't see a red cent from me on pay-per-view because of their outrageous prices.

The prices the studios charge for the "digital rights" are probably higher and based on per use. DVDs had an established distribution model before the kiosks came along. When you had a Blockbuster or Hollywood that required a large and expensive retail footprint and deep inventory then the rental prices had to be high. The kiosk model only requires a few square feet and since they don't have the newest, most popular releases they don't require a lot of product depth.
