one cannot make a prediction right now because as you say... AMAT is trading in tandem to the S&P... in other words it is trading relative to macro market concerns. what one can say is that it has reached a bottom relative to the S&P and that if the S&P recovers AMAT will at least track that recovery. in fact it is likely to respond with vigor as it is likely to start to rise in anticipation with next weeks event.

First Call on AMAT says change current vs yr ago 84%! Looks good going into earnings next week. Word on the street is that AMAT should report decent earnings. But these are only rumors so don't take my word for it.
