My daughter is a case in point. Dedicated Mac user for several years. Calls me up last week and says, "Dad, will you send me a PC? I love the Mac and everything, but I really NEED a PC".

My son is much the same. Grew up with my Macs. Now, being a network administrator type, he's all PC. The only Apple product at his place now is the iPod Touch I gave him. With the exception of iPods, none of his friends use Apple products. Apple is beneath them geeks. (g)

But of course they are gamers. They laugh at the idea of gaming on an Apple.

On the other hand, their collective jaws did drop when I told them how much I paid for my hackintosh tower. (g)

>>That's a good question. Why would someone who knows WTF he's doing pile layer upon layer of software -- any of which can cause problems on its own -- on a Mac to get it to do what Windows already does?<<

What a silly idea. The Windows machine can't run OS X apps, can't give you a UNIX command line, and speaking of things that can cause problems, is still afflicted with the Registry.

Meanwhile, the Mac can do all of those things, and also run Windows natively, within several rock-solid virtualization programs, or via remote terminal software.

I love being able to carry one state of the art notebook that allows me to connect to and work with any other system I encounter, and run virtually any program in the world. I also love being able to do that without having to spend hours and hours dealing with computer problems on my own system, just because some stupid driver update didn't go the right way.
