I am sure they have benefitted from the current oil boom. Most oil booms are traditionally followed by a bust. The bust from the early 80's is not been erased from everyone's memory. When I hear the phrase "this time its different" I get goose bumps and see red flags. I hope for my employment sake this boom has some legs.

I have only lightly looked at IRET, one thing I noticed is they have been around for a while. North Dakota has a lot of older businessmen that know how to make money. I plan on looking into this a bit more when time permits. They may be priced for perfection.

On a side note, I took my daughter to Minot, ND tonight to play a hockey game. First thing I noticed in the rink is a sponsorship billboard from IRET. If they sponsor hockey I like them already. LOL

Maybe this is the beginning of the recovery. Buffet in his annual letter sees a better business climate in 2011. Many of the Berkshire Hathaway holdings are expected to pay higher dividends this year. Buffet is still sticking with the notion that America’s best days are ahead.

Help Wanted: Fargo Strains to Fill Jobs

From the article:"...North Dakota boasted a 3.9% average unemployment rate in 2010, the Labor Dept. said Friday, the third consecutive year the state has notched the lowest rate in the nation, or tied for it...."

"...Most acutely needed: doctors, nurses and other health-care workers, as well as salespeople, from retail clerks to insurance agents. The western part of North Dakota, in the midst of an oil boom, is desperate for welders and engineers. Even truck drivers, who posted nearly 11% unemployment in 2010 nationally, are hard to find...."

If in deed this is the turn, collecting a basket of the dividend achievers should result in higher dividend returns in the future.

The only thing that could cause a stumble is continued higher Oil prices.
