The unions collecting their own dues would ultimately destroy them. Sure there would be some "thugging" and peer pressure, but that just doesn't fly any longer. The unions would fall apart. Also note that many union positions are paid for full time by the state as they "work" for the unions.

Walker's bill would make the unions collect their own dues on a voluntary basis.

Unions so much smack of Russia and Communism, IMO. Not only can you not take some of the jobs without belonging to a union, which is bad enough, but as you say, currently those dues are collected by the state.

The right to work shouldn't have to include belonging to a union.

Unless of course, people are silly enough to want to burn their money by belonging to that union.

The unions have it set up that all government workers must pay their dues whether they join or not; the dues are automatically collected by the state. That's what the Wisconsin fight is really about, union revenues. Walker's bill would make the unions collect their own dues on a voluntary basis
