Why not make pot legal?

I gave this one a lot of thought before responding, my friend. I have long been against the legalization of marijuana and other narcotics, but I also realize that my view on that topic is in conflict with my views on freedom. I think everyone should be able to do whatever they want without government interference, provided that it doesn't impact me and vice versa.

I think I could support the legalization of marijuana with one important proviso. If a marijuana user becomes high and kills or seriously injures someone, he should be executed. None of this, "I was a victim of drug abuse, therefore, I was not responsible for my actions" malarkey.

The same should hold true for the consumption of alcohol. If a drunk driver kills or seriously injures someone, he should also be put down.

I have these views because I see certain elements in society demanding these rights, but when they ultimately kill a family, seriously hurt someone, or even ruin their own lives they play the victim card and receive light sentences along with "free" drug treatment.
