Gold inches up; silver posts fresh 31-year high

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Gold futures edged higher Monday, getting some support from lingering concerns about unfolding events in the Middle East and North Africa but also being dented by some of the day's positive macroeconomic news. Silver settled at a fresh 31-year high, with the May contract ending the day 2.7% higher at $33.82 an ounce.
