Actually part of that guy's problems was not realizing that low-priced stocks don't count for margin. If you are going to use a margin account make sure you buy stocks with a generous allowance for that requirement. I got into trouble myself years ago not realizing that. Had a perfectly sound stock that was priced at 5, it declined to 4.75 and I got a margin call and had to do some selling. It was taken compeltely off the books as if it had lost all value. So you do have to watch out for that.

Right now is no time to be on margin for anything except to maintain short positions.
