Austria hasn't executed anyone since 1950, or gotten in any wars. That seems to be working a lot better for them, than their pre-1945 attitude, when they were enthusiastic about government-organized killing, with bad results. New Zealand, a civilized nation: last execution in 1957; they sent soldiers to the Korean and Vietnam wars, but, having learned their lesson, avoided the Empire's wars since. Only uncivilized habitually-violent nations like Iran, China, and the U.S. find it "essential" to kill criminals.
