one possibility is that you may have actually seen some short covering
today. according to the following:

stock index futures closed up today, and shorts may have felt this was a good time to bail. they have made a ton of money this week.

Craig, you're short COMS? Kind of dangerous... Yes it'll probably fall back to 25 based on technicals, but even through the downgrades most analyst have kept a price target of 45 1 yrs hence.
