Salt Lake City has TERRIBLE air quality, because of it's geography. It's surrounded by mountains, gets a ton of particulates blown in from the southern deserts ( unbelievable dust accumulations! ) and suffers from frequent inversions, some that last several weeks. The inversions trap the air over the city, so it gets bad real fast. Red air quality, where you're advised not to go outdoors or do anything strenuous, not to drive if possible, and especially not BURN anything.

I knew nothing of it when I moved here. They keep it on the down low.
