James,

I never claimed that Vin was superman... nor did I say he was the smartest.. what I said should have been read as follows:

"If AMD can't keep Vin working on HIS baby, then good luck getting anyone else to do it".

I mean if the guy who lead the design doesn't want any piece of that anymore, who would be CRAZY enough to jump into the pressure cooker that is AMD's lead design/manufacturing role?

I think you really missed my point.. I wasn't saying Vin was that irreplacable.. however they will need to bring in someone (I wouldn't want to job, no matter how much you paid me). And this someone will not have 1% of the knowledge of the CURRENT product as Vin. In many regards AMD lost experience with the one product that will make or break the company.

And what about the K6-3D and the K6+3D??? How will those programs be affected? I don't know, all I know is that the LAST thing AMD needs now is more confusion and that's what this is going to result in. Will it delay things: YES. How long: I don't know.. 2 days.. 2 weeks.. 2 months????? I haven't the foggiest.

Point is that this doesn't bode well for yeilds having improved or for the future of whoever takes over teh job..

As for Jerry R. leaving Cyrix, THANK GOD.. The difference between Jerry R. leaving and Vin leaving is quiet simples.. Jerry R. was VERY MUCH like Jerry S. He sat in his office and didn't worry TOO MUCH about the tech aspect.. Vin on the other hand was apparently involved in everything with the K6 (including when the design team was allowed to fart)..

Now if Jerry S. has left I feel the complete opposite of how I feel about Vin. Infact Jerry S. is the sole reason I have never bought a single share of AMD. I cheer for AMD because of it's engineers (who are usually pretty good). That's the same reason I cheer for Cyrix. These are companies that at least TRY to invent new things (as opposed to stealing them ;-) )..

I hope this explains my position and views a little more clearly.
