try plugging in a different headset. That way you can isolate whether it is the headset or the computer.

Also, make sure to test the headset on something else you know works. Maybe the headset is bad.

If you need a good set of headphones, I have 2 pair of these: amazon.com They also come with a foam windscreen for the mic. It's included in the box. Been using that model for years, they are great.

Depending on your operating system, and whether you have a sound card or not..I assume with a laptop no separate sound card.. This might or not help? Go to control panel..sound and audio devices..double left click..should have an audio tab at the top.. volume...sound...audio..voice...hardware Click the audio tab..then advanced...sound playback..default device....speakers > speakers setup..that should give you a chance to pick headphone as the preferred audio device (in the drop down menu)
