The controller doesn't kick in often, but several months ago I was having mouse freeze issues. Whenever the mouse froze, once or twice a week, the Intel Raid controller would automatically start and copy the Raid disk back to the C disk during which time the computer slowed.

The above makes no sense, with how basic RAID 1 works. I have no clue who told you that.

RAID 1 is not a "on demand" or "delayed" technology. It is real time - writing to both drives simultaneously.

Maybe someone else can answer what is going on with your system.
