(Can the trunk lines whisk folks around at 200 KM+? Are feeder lines sufficiently and appropriately located to feed the system?)

Certainly no one is claiming that 'rail is the best solution everywhere'. Clearly, it AIN'T.

But SOME PLACES it can be a better option than air. (Particularly given the modern day security and congestion and fuel surcharge headaches of air travel.)

And, I'll bet that if some interstate highway right-of-ways had rails traveling parallel to them (or even light commuter rail in some of the medians) that we might see them as suitable competition for autos --- especially as gas prices rise.
